Quiet: 10 Swagger: 0

Don’t be fooled by the mediocre gunslingers of the world into thinking that noisy swagger means more than the quiet doing of good work.

Yes, I know it’s hard to work as a “published writer” these days   – a  field where there is such a low barrier to entry. As in none. Unless you count owning a computer and having an internet connection.

Remember that writing is not: 1. Facebook likes 2. Page Views 3. Speaking at conferences 4. Talking about how great you are at writing 5. how much someone paid you for writing 6. Compliments

When you find yourself feeling jealous of someone else’s “swagger,” just keep doing the work you feel called upon to do to the best of your ability on that day.

Even if it is never seen by the masses or acknowledged as you think it should be, know that there is always someone out there who is watching. There is someone out there who reads you and loves your writing.  You know who these people are, don’t you? Writing for them alone is your path. Focus on them.
